URBAN TRAFFIC MANAGEMENT & PUBLIC TRANSPORT, Italy, Turin

The system was built and is progressively extended with the following objectives:

• optimise traffic and reduce travel times
• ensure absolute and selective priority to public transport
• reduce the environmental impact of traffic
• operate in full integration with the other ITS applications operational in the city

• Supply, configuration and commissioning of the traffic light control system software on an area of 300 intersections
• Training and technical support to the system operators
• Software maintenance and upgrade
• UTOPIA UTC strategies implemented

Before-after analyses conducted in the context of the QUARTETPLUS European research project demonstrated that the system resulted in:

• 17% reduction of the travel time of private traffic at the area level
• 14,4% decrease of the travel time of the public transport priority vehicles
• 10% reduction of traffic emissions
