Challenge

The City of Stockholm – like many other big European cities – suffers from high traffic volumes leading to daily congestions within the city and its suburbs. Even though the city introduced the “Stockholm congestion tax” in 2007, further improvements to a better traffic flow, traffic safety and reduction of emissions within the city were needed.

Details

The contract between SWARCO and the City of Stockholm consists of technical assistance work, maintenance, prevention maintenance and repair and installation of traffic control equipment for the City of Stockholm. It also includes operation and maintenance for:

  • More than 500 traffic signal installations and barriers
  • 6,600 inductive detectors
  • 120 microwave detectors
  • 2 variable message signs (VMS)
  • 9 bicycle air-pumps
  • 42 surveillance cameras
  • OmniVue monitoring system for more than 300 intersections
