Challenge
Independent from Stockholm’s new urban traffic control system, the city of Stockholm wants to further advance its interurban traffic control system to improve traffic flow and traffic safety and to reduce emissions on its motorways. Therefore, SWARCO is creating a complete motorway system based on the MTM-2 standard.
Details
SWARCO’s system results in fewer accidents and better traffic flow. Local residents as well as road users will benefit through increased traffic safety and a significant reduction of local and global pollution. The complete system comprises:
- 360 MTM-2 outstations
- 1,090 lane matrix signals
- 1,100 queue-warning detectors
- 30 variable road sings
- 1,167 variable directions signs (prism signs)
- 160 tunnel information signs
- 6 tunnel closure signs
- 70 barriers
- 500 camera systems for detection of stopped vehicles
