INTERURBAN TRAFFIC MANAGEMENT, Germany, Hesse

Hessisches Strassenamt für Verkehrswesen, 2009-2010

Challenge

Hesse’s motorways A5 and A45 are not only one of the most important long-distance connections for the international freight traffic, but also of major importance for the region Friedberg/Gambacher Kreuz. The motorways suffer from extremely high capacity utilisations (144,000 cars/day). During peak hours even small incidents have negative impacts on the traffic flow resulting in enormous congestions.

  • 11 environmental stations
  • Approx. 58 km of fibre optic and energy cable
